Toshiba announces new video display

This announcement was found in the HDforIndies website:

http://gear.ign.com/articles/679/679235p1.html

"Toshiba is planning to release this new line of unbelievably accurate flat-panel sets in late 2006. The technology is called "Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display" (yes, that's a mouthful) or SED for short. The electronics maker showcased prototype SED sets at CES and every IGN editor on-hand was in agreement: nothing else compares."

I wonder if this means the possibility of having large, broadcast-color-accurate flat-panel displays in our editing suites at relatively reasonable prices?

This is the one the leading emitter technologies that we have been waiting on for years. It might turn out cheaper than Plasma etc. But as far as those contrast ratios, some Plasmas and LCD's have better figures I think. One LCD large screen released in the last year had 1 million to one contrast ratio.

100,000 to 1 contrast exceeds any known capture format I know of, including film.
Lets hope they are affordable. To bad they don't plan on making the smaller ones.
