There is not much I can tell you about these HD camcorders shown behind the plexi in Panasonic’s booth. There was nothing in the press lit about them. But they look mighty neat. Anybody have any details they want to share on these?

I remember seeing/reading here about a folding handle/pistol grip super 8 style thing for a previous mock up from Panasonic.

This one on the left looks almost looks like a ray gun.

I can see it now: "Police shoot man holding camcorder."

There are reports, elsewhere on the forum, about the GS500 which is a de-specd GS400. So the camera on the right might be Panasonic`s tapeless consumer HD reply to the Sony HC1 - but that is just a guess by me.

Another guess is that it could be feasible to capture to a large capacity SD card, functioning like the P2, but encoding to the Mpeg4 H.264 format. This has much lower data rates. But it could be a nightmare to decode for editing.

They look like props for a 50s era scifi movie.

What trade show is this from?

Is it just me or did anyone else think this was a prototype for the HVX 200 when they saw it early 2005?
