JVC HD 100 gets a major upgrade
 

It's called the JVC HD 200U, and it can do 60p and accept 16mm PL Mount prime film lenses.

I prefer the $5299 price tag on the HD100.

Is that for real, what are they going to put in the sub $7K segment to replace it?.

they've added 60P
added flip image in LCD (must be very easy)

and increased the price by 2.5K?

if this camera is Intra frame compression then it is something, just please tell me this Group of Pixel thing (GOP) is a thing of the past and camera manufactures figured out we want simplified processes not bad ideas that makes life difficult in post.

The hd250u is 8995 without lense, priced closer to 11K depending on lense option. The HD200U is do out in Nov. Price right at 8K. No they are not discontinuing the hd-100u. It's a real international hit. Lots of people using it here to do news type capture of NAB.

At first I was upset, but I'm only looking for 24p and I got the IDX battery option too.

The 250 is sweet though.

The 200 is primarily directed at sports and live events in the field.


The 2/3 inch 3chip cmos camera is on indefinite hold.

Wow, I totally slept on JVC. The HD200 looks like an amazing camera, but too bad they released the HD100 first.

bascally a new improved codec (720 60p), image flip for the lcd.
I wouldn't be surprised (just guessing) at a price drop for the hd-100. I don't need 60p, but I can see why others would.

This appears to be a very good NAB for JVC, from all the traffic and comments I've heard on the floor. And the HD 100 with P+S Tecknic and a cook prime in 24p is a thing to behold.

If the new HD200 uses an Mpeg-4 encoder over an advanced Mpeg-2 I'd be really stoked. Mpeg-2 is dead it just doesn't know it yet. The price seems a little high given the overall lack of improvement, but I seem to recall the price for the HD100 being in the 6-7K range and then it hit the street @ 5 G's. I'll bet that in November you can get this at B&H for 6295. Hopefully it will have some new glass or even a lenseless option. The PL adapter sounds awesome but I also remember a similar option for the HD100 that never materialized. HD-SDI is a cool option for studio work but still has a ways to go before it will be useful in the field. Overall, bully to you JVC. It's nice to see a company attack the market and improve on a camera that's not even a year old. Are you listening Canon?
