5K Cinema - Cinevision 2006 at 5000x2000
Crazy 5k projection! And I thought they said that the difference between 2k and 4k was indistinguishable to the audience 5-10 rows back!

I saw a UHD projection at NAB this year. That's 7680 x 4320. The detail on
that was pretty mind blowing. This was from http://www.nhk.or.jp/english/ |
Rob,
People often say this or that about how much resolution adds to an image, I think it is steeply diminishing returns myself past a point (150dpi, 720p I think, based on close TV viewing distance and the resolution lowering effects of a transmissive image). Compared to equally compressed 1080p footage at a equal field of view how much better did it look in percentage terms to you and others you met? Of course optimal human vision in the small centre of the eye of a good seer, has around 2400dpi resolution at reading distance, and surround requires a number of times again, so even the new 111Mp Dalsa sensor leaves a lot of room left for improvement. But I wonder how much improvement there will be over UHD, 3%, or less then 1%? http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...294#post502294 |
Mind you I saw this in a "theater" projected onto a pretty big screen. I like to
compare it a bit to IMAX in digital. It's a bit hard to describe what I saw. There was a lot of detail in the image (again, the projected size was pretty big) and it had a bit of sensation of being there. I agree that size isn't everything, but I thought it was pretty impressive detail wise (the dynamic range and look were a bit more video-like). Hard to put it into numbers... perhaps check them out yourself at next years NAB? :) |
If I was sufficiently rich, I would probably had been there this year to see you guys ;) . And ordering a red, and SHD flat panel.
|
Forgot you are from Australia Wayne. Hope you can make it out there next year (heck I'm flying in from Holland again)!
|
Yes, I keep forgetting your not in the US either, phew, good to have some other foreigners around on the wave length ;).
Actually, I'm interested in a OLED based SHD 8Mp+ displays, are they out, have you heard of any? The actual cost difference between a large SHD and 1080p HD display on this lowest cost technology might be so low as not to make the HD worth it for my use. Actually, out of curiosity, being in the general continental region, do you know what happened to the drachenfeder movie/camera? |
I'm actually not that much clued into displays at the moment. Also haven't
heard anything around these regions about Drake. I have a friend working at some local TV station and he hasn't mentioned anything either. |
Thats OK, I wonder if the movie was released then, I hope so.
