Im curious as what they will be using, some sort of 5K projection I would guess.

More likely 2k or maybe 4k projection. But who knows for sure, until they make the official announcement.

For me, as a former "uptight" film projectionist, I can finally go to the theatres and have a great picture. And no more run-down equipment that's barely maintained (not all theatres are like this, but there are many).

Heh...you'll have to point me in the direction of that vendor. Now, I've heard that some group had some experimental 5K projection for some kind of event, but I'm not aware of anyone with a production 5K system.

I used to go to a theater in Dade City Florida (that's long since been torn down) where the projection booth always smelled like it was on fire. If you sat in the back, which I did in my youth to cuddle with my girlfriend, the scent was enough to make me worry about impending disaster throughout the feature. ;-)

The last time I was there was for Cool World and one side of the theater had no seats and there were tall oscillating fans where those seats had been (because the air conditioning was out). It was about 95 degrees (35C for you metrically disposed folk) and all I remember about the movie was that I wished it would end soon. ;-)

5k resolution:

Movie theatres had to start using safety film because the old stuff used to catch on fire!

ps-I saw Cool World in a West Palm Beach, Florida theatre when I was 16. I worked at that theatre 2 years later and they had to change the carpets every 3 years because of the smell!

I wasn't aware that anyone had a 5K system shipping yet. Sorry.

Ah, West Palm. I used to ride my motorcycle down there all the time for concerts and stuff. Place has changed a lot over the years. Hey, is the Hollywood Sportatorium still there? I think I just veered off-topic. ;-)

I think that's long gone. If you want, email me and we'll talk South Florida.
