Serious Ultra is an amazing DV keyer. I'm hoping Adobe rolls it into After Effects, that would be nice.

this is bad, bad news

Pete Bauer October 19th, 2006 08:08 AM

Bill, your post is unhelpful without providing some factually based rationale. Please elaborate.

Adobe acquires Serious magic

this is very sad and disappointing news. adobe bought out Pixmantec and stopped their RAW image processing technology . They used a few of the features in the upcoming Lightroom, but, IMHO, the workflow sucks. Now they have their grimy mits around serious magic. <sigh> Not to mention MacroFlash
I just hate it when these big corps buy out the innovation of a small company. these big guys couldn't innovate their way out of a plastic sack. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the days when I paid for the troubles caused by premiere.
I have paid for HDrack 2. How long before my license validation proceedure won't be recognized by adobe. At the very best, they'll do the same as they did with Pixmantec and offer me 1 free upgrade to v 1.0 then I have to pay for the next one.

I think anyone who is using dvrack with a non adobe nle is going to be a little worried. But Adobe didn't mess with macromedias toolset, so maybe they will let SeriousMagic continue as a multi nle friendly app.

Edious pro 4 has many more tools/functions for capturing video, including P2 media.

Adobe needs to get with it, and this may be a logical route.

You're saying Edious Pro 4 has the same features for capturing that DV Rack does?

Bill Ravens October 19th, 2006 10:55 AM

Don't mean to cross post. In response to pete's request, let me refer you here:

Bill, I just merged your post in TOTEM (linked above) into this thread. Everything's under one roof that way. You're saying it's bad news depending on what Adobe decides to do with it. Hopefully they won't kill the line. The impression I'm getting is that this won't happen.

Not exactly. I'm saying that Edious captures directly from the HVX, and PPro does not. However this aquisition is going to answer that (I hope).

Congrats to Serious Magic

I own 3-4 SM products. They have been one of the few software companies whose products are innovatve enough and functional enough to justify the price.

I hope that Adobe will continue to allow the creativity and ingenuity to flourish. Small software companies dream of such a payday. The magicians deserve. If the money will change some of them, it will also provide opportunities for spinoffs.

Good luck to SM and to Adobe, who made a smart move.
