Apple TV!
I want one!
plays/streams 720p.... hdmi and component out! see it at apple's website |
Just a note, it has NO composite or S-Video outputs.
This was probably done to close the 'analog hole.' |
Last time I checked Component was still analog. ;)
|
What I meant was the ability to 'copy' content to some sort of lower res format like DV/VHS or something like that... ^_^
|
Watching HD content located on your computer on your television sounds great in theory, but the one thing I'm wondering about is download times ... how long does it take to download a movie in 720p from itunes?
|
I'm sure they'll have an option to stream it from iTunes, or download. Its going to be tough for them for sure lol. One gripe I have is no 1080 or DVCProHD support...yet ;) Although streaming from iTunes (will stream thigns from online to the iTV to the TV without download) is great you can also stream from 5 computers to one iTv to your Television also. Its a cool product but I dont have a decent TV so its not for me.
The price is certainlly a plus. 300 bucks, man thats awesome. - Kyle |
Just think of this- you author a HD project and export to 720P and check on your big screen TV prior to final burns on whatever HD format wins- nice way to present videos at home and check for color-calrity etc.
|
Just curious, how is that different from hooking the DVI input of the TV directly into your G5 as a Preview monitor for FCP? Unless the TV is just in a different room I guess...
|
Hmm, my TV has no HDMI input. Nuts.

The unit still has Component Video outputs, which no doubt any HDTV has.
My HDTV has firewire, but alas, it won't connect directly to a firewire camera... : ( |
Well, I do have Component.

According to the specs, its max resolution is 720p, but the movies your download from iTunes are a max of 640x480. The 720p is the max resolution it can display at connected to your TV.
I have 5 videos distributed on iTunes myself, so I had to encode them at the download max of 640x480. They don\'t distribute full movies in 720p because the file sizes would be WAY too large. You can, however, download some of their movie trailers in 720p. I assume that they\'ll play at their max resolution on the Apple TV unit. It would be silly not to. |
Rob Yannetta,
I\'m going to start a new thread here about getting on iTunes, so we don\'t get off track. heath |

Although... couldn\'t you just copy from iTunes to a DVD or something? I\'m not familiar with itunes. Just pointing out that component is analog. Copying material is a different matter. Now, will they release movies on iTunes in 720P? Only then will I jump on board. Great price though! Mike |
