Bring on the new toys!!!!

Nate Weaver March 1st, 2007 05:18 PM

Thank God.

I've been checking into Media Composer lately...Apple has fallen pretty far behind in same areas.

Here's hoping they make a big jump forward.

I just hope they will show a 17” MacBook Pro with at a least a 1920X1080 resolution screen, if not 1920x1200. It’s very likely that it will have HDMI outport but hopefully it will also have an import capability so that you can bypass HDV straight to your laptop and choose an intermediate codec instead. For the hard drive, it better be a hybrid that also has flash memory. Hitachi is about to release one of those for laptops. If Apple does all that, it would the perfect laptop for videographers.

For now, you can buy a Mac Pro, or use a Power Mac, and get one of these cards for HDMI capture:

HDMI Cinema Displays
FCP Studio 6
Shake's successor
RED partnership
8-core or more Mac Pro
Quad-core Macbooks

Anything could happen.

My guess would be the Quad-core Mac (true quad-core, 4 processors on one chip set) might be announced at the WWDC in June or thereabouts.

I know about that, but releasing one for a laptop will be a huge benefit because you would be able to use that technology anywhere you want. Just put your laptop in your backpack and have an HDMI plug hooked up to your laptop and your camcorder.

A lot of stock footage companies want the HDV footage on a MJPEG file. Using a MJPEG codec to begin with, will save either you or the footage companies from converting all that footage. As for all that storage that you are going to be using, Apple should have a Blu-Ray burner inside the next MacBook Pro.

1920x1080 screen (minimum)
2 HDMI in/out ports
Hybrid Hard Drive
Blu-Ray burner
-Now that’s my kind of laptop.

No, what I mean by "8-core" is dual quad core processors. However, if you mean a 4 processor motherboard, then that would be unlikely unless Apple really needed the capability for 16-cores quickly (perhaps to smoothly play back 4K-quality video?).

But this is merely rumor-speak, obviously Apple will release the 8-core Mac Pros at the very least.

That's what I'm saying, too, a Quad-Core Mac leads us to an 8 core.

You are probably right. I was told by an Dell sales person, that they are upgrading their 30 inch monitor, probably around March. I think Apple will do likewise.

Jon Fairhurst March 2nd, 2007 01:03 PM

NAB, huh? Then it won't be computer oriented. It will be media oriented - and high end at that.

How's this for a rumor: Apple will overhaul Logic to be a Pro Tools killer...

http://arstechnica.com/journals/appl...2007/2/27/7253

Now THAT sounds like an announcement for NAB, with lots of add-on hardware to boot...

Wayne,

Note that the "rumor" article above mentions an LCD touch screen. That would be consistent with Apple's direction on the iPhone.

Dang, I should have trademarked iScreen...
