Automated storage with Drobo

I just found out a "toy" named Drobo. Looks interesting.
You can put from one to four SATA drives in it, add and remove them on-the-fly. It will replicate your data on the other drives and your computer will see the whole as one disk.
A demonstration video here: http://www.drobo.com/products_demo.aspx

Drobo

I've just ordered the Drobo and 2 1tb drives for backing up my EX1 footage.
I hope it does a nice job.

There are great reviews everywhere - let us know how you find it Daniel.

I was wanting one, but they were USB only. Now there is an add-on unit that allows for Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for access across the network (and I'm assuming remotely). I'd prefer Gig-E built in though, like some other products have.

If they update the product, a Drobo II with built-in Gig-E and eSATA would be the killer product (if it isn't already) and I'd put my $ where my mouth is.

Anyone else here have a Drobo?

That thing is really impressive! Question would you guys edit from that or just use it as a backup?

I've heard about it from the Geek Brief podcasts. Sounds like a nice piece of hardware though.

Drobo usage

I received the Drobo but I'm still waiting for my 1tb drives.
I intend to use the Drobo as back-up and edit using a G-raid gtech 500gb firewire 800.
The Drobo wasn't as big as I expected which is great.
It looks cool on the desk too.

Drobo rocks

I received the 1tb hard drives and placed them in the Drobo.
Drobo is great, really simple to set up, very quiet, and very nice looking on the desk.
Only downfall is usb2 connection but it's ideal for back up which is important if like me you use EX1 sxs cards.
