Wal-Mart is buying 2 million HD-DVD units from Fuh Yuan for sale at the $300 USD price point (that will probably be $299.97). The story reports 2008, but knowing Wal-Mart, I would suspect that they will be on shelves by Nov 23rd.

Hmmm. PPro3 (CS3) now supports Blu-ray Disc... ouch! This could go a number of ways, but one things clear: "Walmart, driving down [blu-ray] prices, always."

That’s old news that I almost posted when that article was released but I didn’t want it to cause any trouble. Other websites have said that the actual translation was for Blu-Ray and then theirs the articles of Microsoft releasing a Blu-Ray attachment for the X-BOX 360. The latest one is Pioneer confirming that Universal is now neutral.

Some of these rumors are going to far. It’s best not to make a big deal about any of it until it happens.

Besides either Universal or Microsoft going neutral to guarantee a win for Blu-Ray, here is something else that can lead Blu-Ray to victory.

The sales of PS3 can top things like the wm rumour ;).

I believe there will be an $300 HD player sooner than later, actually, I believe, there are $99 HD players using MPEG4 based formats. There needs to be an move to $200 players as soon as possible, to displace DVD and others. Even for an SD TV consumer, they will give an better picture on an good 720pixel wide TV, because DVD is lossy compression, and HD should give you an better pixel.

Has anyone else noticed that you can get the HD-DVD player at Costco for $250.00 now after a mail in rebate? and with 5 Movies of course... That's not too bad of a deal if you ask me...

Not a bad deal at all.

I love the fact that I can make a HD DVD on regular on DVD-R with footage from my Canon HV20 and it will play beautifully with menus, etc. on my Toshiba HD-A1.

I love the fact that I can put 30 minutes of broadcast OTA HD on a 25 cent DVD-R.

What I *don't* like is that there is a war, and it will take a while for both formats to merge--which only slows the availability of films in HD for the consumer.

There are no HD-DVD burners out yet, and limited studio support so far for HD DVD--which affects availability of certain movies.

Still--- I think HD DVD is going to be around for while, despite what Blu-Ray supporters would like people to believe.

When Blu-Ray players get down to around $299, I might buy one too.

Yup...it's at home right now kicking out a great picture on my Panasonic SD tv which is soon to be upgraded to a HDTV LCD set.

Definitely a solid deal.

While the top two contenders slug it out, another promising format steps into the ring... HD VMD - 40GB Multilayer Optical disc & backward compatible (red laser)...
