Creating SD DVD's from REDone footage at DVinfo.net

I don't have the particulars yet, but can someone give some possible causes of footage shot on REDone in 4k ending up on SD DVD's with squished or elongated images?

4k is not 16:9 (letterboxed SD on DVD) or 4:3 (SD) aspect ratio. 4k would have to be cropped to 16:9 or 4:3, otherwise it will be squished anamorphic.
