Nero and "File Reallocation" error problems. Any of you have this?

captured 70min footage from xl1s, rendered in vegas4 as a mpg2 file as a 24p NTSC video stream. took that and put it in dvd arch and then rendered that. when i tried to use nero to burn my rendered files it gives me this error message. it's essentially saying that my file allocation doesn't conform to DVD-Video standard. when i burn it the final DVD works in regular DVD players but has some problems when playing back in DVD-ROM. anyone know what the problem is?

I remember this was a bug in one of the versions of Nero. It can
also mean that the disc is simply laid out as it should in the image
before burning.

Get the latest upgrade to the version you paid for to see if that
helps resolve the problem.

Do these problems when playing back on a DVD-ROM also
happen when you first copy the DVD back to the harddisk and
play from there? If not then the problem is probably with the
media / drive combination (in other words, it has trouble reading
the data [fast enough]).

nero 6.3.1.5 i think that is the latest.

i'm thinking it's the DVD arch organizing incorrectly the file allocations? i dunno. when i playback files from hard drive they look OK. i've tried different medias, brands and +/-. R&RW. same thing crops up.

Are any of the files on your DVD larger than 1gig? Best DVD reliability happens when they are 1gig or less. I guess lots of DVD players have troubles if they're larger, but PCs won't.

I use ImgTool as a 'front end' to Nero and it takes care of splitting too large files

i used imgtool and even then i have this error. i think it's how dvd arch organized things.

Ok.. you might try setting Nero to make a
DVD-ROM UDF 1.02 type of DVD instead of ISO. I've had playback troubles with ISO and ISO/UDF compilation structures in the past, but never with UDF.

Also, from checking on Google, others people recommend looking for any 0kb .vob files. That might make Nero put up an error message. If so, it can be ignored and won't cause a playback problem.

Rob Lohman June 29th, 2004 02:20 AM

DVD video needs to be UDF indeed. I'm also a bit worried about
that 2 KB block errors. Hmmm. Try UDF first!

Yi Fong Yu June 29th, 2004 06:58 AM

AND UDF works! i googled around a bit before posting on the thread here and someone said to burn DVD-ROM UDF and under that tab select DVD Vid compatibility (x box compliant etc.) checkbox and 1.02 and it's been working ever since.

so now i'm wonderin' how do people usually burn DVD-Videos?

Loren Caruthers June 29th, 2004 05:02 PM

I think most of them just use what came with their authoring software instead of using a seperate burning program. They probably default to UDF too.

I think Nero's problem, especially with release 6.xx, is there are too many options! Not that it's bad, just that the defaults for DVD-Video seem to be less than optimumal.

Rob Lohman June 29th, 2004 05:33 PM

That's why it's Nero basically, Loren. It has always been the
application with options to use when you know what you are
doing (no offense to anyone). It's get a bit more friendly these
days since it also has Nero Express now etc.

I haven't done much DVD burning myself yet so I haven't used
Nero a lot for it. BUt I always pick something with UDF and burn
to RW first if I can.
