Pretty much just the '+' and the '-' these days...

-R disks have been out longer and is backed by pioneer, which is part of the DVD forum. Its said to be compatible with about 93% of settop players.

+R disks are backed by the likes of philips, which is part of the DVD+RW Alliance. And are said to be about 89% compaible with settop DVD players.

To be honest now adays you can get DVD burners that will write to bove formats. And pretty much any new DVD settop player should play both.

Hope this helps,

I read somewhere that DVD+R are a little quicker to burn than DVD-R (when closing the DVD).

Hi guys,

I also heard that DVD -R should be more compatible than their +R brother. BUT my own tests shows the opposite!

I've had 3 DVD players ( pioneer 514, Centrum Gemini and now KISS DP 1500 ) - all plays +R DVD:s better and more reliable. The same goes for my brothers DVD players.

One more thing that I've noticed is that when I run the Nero media quality check, +R medias often gets better results than -R medias.

This is just my opionions and thoughts...
