Compression of large image file

I have a DVD image file on my desktop that is 3 GB. I want to take this off my computer and transfer it to a different computer. How do I do this? Do I have to somehow compress the image file? And if I do this how do I uncompress it? I am totally lost on this stuff and would appreciate some pointers. Thank You.

You have several options, none of which should require you to compress the image file.

1) Burn the image as a simple data file onto a DVD, then just copy it off the DVD onto the other computer

2) Borrow an external hard drive from someone and just transfer the file onto that drive. Then plug it into the other computer and copy it off.

3) Perhaps get both computers on a common LAN (Local Area Network) and transfer the file to the other computer over the network.

Hope this helps.

Option 1 is the best.

I did it with my whole hard drive last week. Had to wipe it because of viruses. Every file I wanted to keep went on 5 cds. Video clips & all! Tey all look fine.

If the computers are Macintoshs, you can connect them via a Firewire cable. Boot one machine normally. Then, boot the second one holding the T key down. This causes the hard drive of the second system to appear on the desktop of the first as an external drive. Drag and drop to your heart's content.

Windows (at least XP) can do a network over firewire as well.

Of course you can always use regular file compression programs
like WinZip or WinRAR to try and compress the image down. Don't
expect to fit it on a CD or floppy though <g>
