Just saw this on /. (slashdot.org)...

It's probably slow to respond now (I'm still waiting for it to load), but this looks like it will be a nice place for people to host their finished work.

Haha. Riiiiiiight.

Anyone offering free unlimited bandwidth is going to find themselves out of business real fast. And these people are attempting to market this JUST TOWARDS VIDEO? I've seen countless free webhosts go out of business, and most of them didn't even support more than just HTML and images. These people are going to find themselves in a big hole, methinks.

Oh it's no good to be so dismissive. Everyone thought free email was a crazy idea, and look at hotmail. Then people thought nobody could give more than 10mb of free space, now look at Gmail, and it's being followed by Hotmail and Yahoo, all with up to a Gb in free space.

Point being, anything's possible in this day of high speed and high availability of data storage.

Not saying this about this particular offering since I don't have experience with it - I'm just saying we're getting to that place where this kind of stuff is entirely possible. So let's explore it and report back rather than naysay.

My guess is that it is free for now, but that advertising will show up when the content and traffic are sufficient to attract attention.

I posted a video on http://www.putfile.com for free here: http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=workingthewaves just to see what would happen and it seems to be pretty decent. The advertising is not too annoying.

Over 600 viewings and it didn't use any of my precious bandwidth. How long can they last? I don't know. But while they do, I am saving bandwidth by using theirs.

So, what the heck? It is worth a try.

They don't do the hosting.
http://www.archive.org/ does the hosting. They will be around for a great while. I'm sure they aren't worried about space or bandwidth because they already back up the entire internet!
