compression settings for password-protected web video?
 

Ok, this is kinda weird. I'm preparing to attend a major film fest, and I will have DVD screeners of my short to hand out to "important people" (more likely whoever asks). However, let's say I run out (I'm not bringing very many), or these folks don't feel like carrying a full size DVD disk around (yeah, the minis were a good idea, but I've already taken advantage of the good will of colleagues to do mass duplication and labeling of full size disks, so forget it). Someone had the idea to pass out a piece of schwag or something with the password to a password-protected version of the movie on youtube or vimeo, which seems like a right smashing idea to me.

So, if I want something that will stream on phones (who knows what will people will try to view on, right?), but won't look like crap on a laptop/computer, any recommendations for settings? Or two different versions?

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried the compressor (the version from FCS 2) setting for mobile devices/edge network for a phone version. It looks like one would expect, plays fine on my computer, will not open on my phone from my website, can't make it play via vimeo (I have a Verizon/LG Dare). Asked a guy with an iphone to try the vimeo link, no good for him either. Can't seem to find good info on the web about this.

I decided to make two different versions, one for laptops/computers, one for phones.

Instead of DVDs, why not put the data on a USB drive? Even if people don't like your film, they will still like to receive a free USB drive. :-P

The best is MP4. It runs on most machines and phones. I used to watch movies on my mobile phone and they never stuttered or lagged. Or just upload it on Youtube (or another similar website) and share the link. Anybody with an internet connection will be able to watch it.

Don't forget to watermark your video with your company logo or name, etc. BTW, the USB idea is very good, unless you're short of funds. All the best.
