DVD + HD on the one disc

Has anyone ever experimented on having the mp4 HD version of an edit also available as a data file on a DVD?

This would theoretically mean that a customer could either play the SD version in their DVD player, or place the DVD disc in to their BluRay player and play the HD mp4 file instead.

Just a thought.

No, which bluray players will play HD mp4 data files from a DVD catalog?

As an asside, I usually include the disk surface and cover artwork as a data files on the DVD. This makes it possible to make additional copies of the DVD without heroically searching for the original project.

Beats me which ones would do it. I don't even own a BluRay player yet ... though they have come down as low as $88 so I could always get one to test things out.

Would be cool if it worked, even if you had to give written instructions on the packaging as to how to access the HD content.

If the user is playing back the regular DVD on a computer... they could access the HD file if you put into the extras folder.

Not exactly what you want but some of the LG Bluray players also have the ability to play most movie format files off a regular DVD-R with just the DATA. [Though you have to be very clear in the file extension--.mpg .mpeg is okay..but the LG hates.mov or files without extensions]

You could give them a finished DVD and the HD movie file on another DVD-R that they can play back in the LG.

They can also just transfer the file onto a thumb drive and use a Western Digital Media Player to play back the file.
