NTSC on Computer in Europe?

All,

I have to send a DVD to a European viewer. I assume that it has to be PAL to play in the set-top boxes over there... but will an NTSC DVD play in someone's computer over there?

Any advice is helpful... thanks.

Yes, computers have no problems playing PAL & NTSC dvd's, as long as they are not region protected (ie, commercial discs). But even that isn't a large barrier anymore these days.

Depending on where this person is in Europe and how old his equipment is he/she might even be able to play it on a regular DVD player / TV. A lot of stuff is multisystem overhere.

PAL on Computers in the USA

I'm having the opposite issue. I shot a project in PAL and choose not to convert to NTSC for USA customers after experiencing bad quality conversions. I know there are different ways with varying results but now I'm past that point. Decision made PAL only. 30% of my market is in the States and 70 in the UK and Europe. In the Past we shot and sold NTSC dvd's to everyone...no complaints. I understand that will not be the case with PAL so what I thought of doing was to make sure the packaging is extra clear, (incase some of my US distributors choose to carry it anyway as a special import item), and also put a disclosure on our website for USA/NTSC World customers but I wanted to be sure it will work on any type of computer, any type of monitor. Please advise.

Ilyas

Any DVD standard will play perfectly on a computer. No problems there.

Don't expect much players / system in the NTSC world (especially the USA)
to play back PAL discs you've made.
