how much for a Doorway Dolly?

I have the opportunity to purchase a used Matthews Doorway Dolly. The seller does not know how much to charge. What should I offer to be fair?

used matthews doorway

I bought a used matthews in august. I'm a n00b with it (came to this forum to ask about adjusting it), so I'm not sure if that really makes me qualified to answer, but i'll give it a shot.

IMHO, Value depends quite a bit on condition and accessories.

The dolly new is around 1700. A set of straight track wheels is $1200. A set of hot buttons is $600. Centipede wheels are... i think $800. Track goes from $400 to infinity per section.

The tires are quite pricey to replace. If the tires are in good (not very used) condition, that contributes to the value as well. Matthews is very proud of their used parts, so if the dolly is missing the push bar, pull bar or any of the 5 hand screws, that would also knock down the value, as you'll want to replace them.

So assuming the most likely scenario: The dolly is JUST the dolly, but it does come with the hand screws and push/pull bars. The dolly is moderately beat up but operating fine. The tires have some wear but look to be in good shape (no cracks, no leaks) and the deck shows no major signs of destruction.

In other words, assuming that this used one would work as functionally as a new one, but look ugly, then for most any other item i'd offer 20 to 25% of new retail. However, grip gear holds its value like a mad gopher, So i'd go up to 40 and possibly 50% of new if it was mechanically sound. Stuff can go for more than that on ebay, but ebay is often insane so thats not really a good basis for comparison.

As for me, I wouldnt personally pay more than $900 for a used doorway. Any more than that and i'd rather put it towards the new round-d-round doorway. The additional maneuverability (to me) is worth quite a bit.

I paid $2k for my matthews. BUT... mine came with a set of straight track wheels... and a 2.8 meter ride-on crane. hehe. (http://www.regina.com/crane.jpg)

So that was a lot of blather, but maybe it helped. For me? $400-900 depending on condition.

Cheers!
