Re: Best Commercials from SuperBowl 2013

My favorite is the Budweiser ad. Couple of comments; the individual clips were mostly only about 1 second in length, there was no use of silly super-shallow DoF (I call such shots Bloomers) and no green blue out of focus post work, thank heavens. I thought the editing, camera work, and emotion development excellent. Exposure was spot on tending towards the bright, contrast not overdone, and the Stevie Nicks soundtrack quite masterful. Altogether extremely professional I thought.

Now, would you say this looks ‘cinematic’?

Whatever, almost 10,000,000 plays already at You Tube.

Excellent work Jake Scott; congratulation to you and your team.

Agreed on all points, John -- I'm not sure Id call the Bud ad "cinematic," but it was definitely effective, in my opinion.

Re: Best Commercials from SuperBowl 2013

They're all different durations, 1:40, 2:03, 1:47 and 1.03 .. so there's no time restrictions on the lengths?
If so how do they charge for airing the spots, by the second and the number of plays?

I like the Audi, get in get out my old boss used to say, but make it fun, or else.

Cheers.

Hi Alan, I *think* they all go to air in either :30 or :60 lengths; some of the above are the special "extended" versions.

Here's a related article you might find interesting: http://adage.com/article/special-rep...l-2013/238489/

Average price per spot was around $3.7 million (Cue Dr. Evil pinky bite).

I'm sure it's really 1:40, 2:00, 1:45 & 1:03. Stations are very firm on length & frames being 30:00 exact. Even flagging spots altogether if they run less or more, rather than cutting them themselves. Having said that, for the 1:40 & 1:45 either CBS or the NFL probably used a :15 or :20 promo commercial of their own to makeup the difference, unless they were able to sell it to another client.

I didn't see the Audi one till now, but yeah I like that. Esp the bit about "Alot of kids are going alone nowadays" and the sister says "No they're not". The Farmers was great, and the Bud Clydesdale. I also like the Joe Montana stain, thought that was very relevant & clever.

Re: Best Commercials from SuperBowl 2013

Thanks for that article Chris. David it's very interesting. Big bikkies for a big audience.

You know if I was Bud, next year I'd make a spot which kicks off ..

'Okaaay, when the power at the game goes out, time to go get another Bud ..'

Given that the crew in the bowels of CBS could dig it out in time :)

And it's short sweet and cheap, following my old bosses adage.

Cheers.

Re: Best Commercials from SuperBowl 2013

I liked all that you posted but I gotta say, I REALLY like the Farmer with Paul Harvey. I used to listen to him all the time. His delivery was the best, well along with Edward R. Murrow. I liked the prom because I could see something like that happening one day to my grandson ;-), the Bud was cool as always but I preferred previous when the horses were playing football especially the one with the streaker! The goat was great but I loved the one last year with the dog. Classic!

Farmer won for me, words, vocal delivery, rhythm and visual matches.

Others were great, but at that level, they always are.
