DVC3- "Flash"- Feedback

I've got a big list here of things that I need to remember to do the next time I shoot something (1. Get a sound guy), but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.

EDIT: For anyone that has trouble seeing it in the page, you can grab the different files directly here:

Awesome!

Great rhythm, great cuts. The story is very simple and appealing. I loved the investigator's attitude :).

Lighting is very good too, specially in a difficult space as that one seemed to be. Oh, I wish my short could have been more polished now that I see your high quality marks, guys.

Yeah you had a good twilight zone/x-files vibe going on, well done and good job on the lighting. I also liked the photographer's attitude, very funny. Cinematography and editing worked fine.

Dialogue audio was decent, but could be improved. Soundtrack music and f/x were good, I especially liked the asian themed music at the end.

Very nice and "moody" music. Pictures were great and the effect of the "monster" was cool. I know it has been mentioned elsewhere but being able to download the clip is much better than viewing it on a webpage...

Yes, quite nice. Nice effects too.

I have been telling the other folks, the skill level of this one is really high so far. I hope you guys will like mine. Should be out tomorrow I think.

Very nicely done.

Elvis!

Terrific!

I'm with these guys. I loved the "feel" of this film and thought you captured this incredibly well. The lighting, coloring and overall look definitely set the mood.

I have never created a "monster" before and would love for you to share how you did that.

Bravo!

I got the feeling I was watching a T.V. show, the lighting was so good, and the acting so matter-of-fact. Very professional looking. Maybe could have used an extra twist, the spooky thing getting the girl, then the guy, then the other guy. I kind of expected a twist at the end.

Hey Elvis. Great job. Your lighting was very good. You blocked the scene very nicely. The f/x were great. I also liked the music. Good choices. Had a C.S.I knockoff type feel. Very high on the list so far. Good luck in the judging.

Wow! This films is really great! Well lit, the editing is perfect, acting is good, too bad, the only girl in this film was dead... :-)

I agree with Dick, I expected a twist in the end, or something to explain the presence of this ghost in this house... but your ghost is really nice! is it real?!? :)

Overall, one of the best so far! Great job!

Thanks for all the feedback!

I'd like to take credit for framing and lighting, but that was all my brother's doing. I just stepped back and let him and his gaffer (our main actor) do that thing they do.

The cloud stuff was done in particleIllusion, which was nice because I spend a lot of time writing tutorials for the software, but hardly ever get to use it in production. I made a 3D model for the ghost/demon in the shot where it leaps out, and rendered it with sort of an x-ray effect, then gave a blurry glow to it in After Effects.

I'll try to rustle up some live actresses next time :) We were supposed to have one playing my role (the cop in the suit), but she couldn't make it.

X- Files style...Like the shoes short in DVC2 eh? Love Gillian. Love the concept. Maybe I can get Jodie Foster for my next short? OK, I doubt it too.

You can try this backup page on my brother's site. Maybe the different server will work.

Yea!!! That one worked! And so did this movie!!! It was well worth the wait.

So polished--professional. Even though many of the images were gruesome (as you meant them to be) they are gorgeous. Love the richness through the cold, dark mood. And your special effects are first rate. (The first time the "monster" did his thing my dog ran out of the room! Guess I had the audio turned up too loud.) Which reminds me: Help an old lady out here--what does the third photographer say after "Maybe we should put out an APB..." ?

Your timing/delivery on the "All right, wiseguy" was great, btw.

Thank you so much for making it possible for me to finally see it, Elvis. You and your brother should be really proud of such fine work.

Thanks Lorinda, glad you could finally see it. Next time I'm putting up direct links to everything right off the bat.

The line is:

DONALDSON
Looks like we've got some kind of vanishing killer...with claws.

FEINSTEIN
Maybe we should put an APB out on Siegfried and Roy.
