Wall of Shame for me
 

Earlier today a guy decided his 4x4 pickup needed to be where my car was, so made an illegal lane change into the right front fender and right door of my 300ZX. Not sure if they'll total it or not (sure hope not), but most importantly, no injuries. Worst, my team lost the "beer league" hockey playoff game I was heading toward (yeah, I made it there so I got to help lose a game, too!)

I'm back home but have no appetite for firing up my editing box. Just gonna chill out this evening with my favorite comfort food: ice cream.

There's no shame in being the victim of an idiot driver; glad to hear you didn't get hurt.

Being a long time off-and-on bike (As in Harley) rider since High School, I have seen the number of goofballs on the road increase almost daily. The introduction of cell phones small enough to hold in one hand, makeup, cigarettes, pets (Yes, I will NEVER understand people driving with their dogs on their laps) and other distractions have made life on the road to those of us who still take driving as a serious business (I used to race SCCA for a while in my Escort GT - also see John Milner, the character from American Graffetti) very dangerous.

I honestly believe when they killed off Drivers Education in the high schools, it put us in some danger. We took driving for a semester (1/2 school year) when I was a kid, several times a week for at least 1 hour each day. Private driving schools seem to churn out a new batch with a very short run-up. Sure they do the legal minimum time in classes and seem to be passing the tests but I think when we went for a longer period and had lots of simulator and in car days, it helped drive it home much better.

Sorry about the car. It's inconvenient, looses us time and money but luckily no people or family members that got hurt.

Ouch! Not the best day, for sure, but it's a blessing you weren't hurt given the parameters:

My father was in an accident this week, same deal.. some clown in an suv doing a fast lane change, completely hosed his custom supercharged vander plas jag. I was just happy that he was ok, although the car is a total loss.

I vote no hall of shame for car accident victims.

Wall of Shame for me too. But it's not out of laziness or anything. Last week, I directed 2 shorts, did camera on 2, edited 4, acted in 2 (during a Kino-Kabaret in Matane, Quebec). I just didn't have time to make the sun-themed movie, though I had my idea and thought it was pretty good. Next time I guess.

I'm not a jag fan, but sympathies to anyone who's "baby" of any make or model gets the Idiot Driver Treatment. Turns out my "assailant" had a lapse in insurance...end result: uninsured 4x4 driver on a TX road causes over $2100 in damage. I was told today that 1 in 4 cars on the road in TX are uninsured (and it is the law). Amazing.

Sounds like he also had a lapse in brain function.

Back in 1986 I had an 83 Jeep CJ-7 that I restored and lifted to perfection. I spent nearly two months in the shop, about 2-4 hours a day working on it.

I took it out for it's maiden voyage to some sand dunes, and on the way home I was hit head-on by a stupid drunk in an intersecton. I landed about ten feet shy of a gas pump. The collision was to bad that it busted both his front seats and sent his hatchback into an adjoining field. We, the officer and I, had to look for it in order to get his plate number.

Thankfully I was still wearing my five-point harness. I never bothered to switch it out, just turned onto the road and headed home.

Believe it or not, that guy came away without a stratch!

I still remember smelling fresh paint when they hauled my jeep away. I cried like a baby.

Take his uninsured butt to court, and either get the $21,00 in cash, or take the truck.

Houston is the worst... This accident was on Beltway 8.

I can't say I got into a car accident, but I can say that I'm joining the wall of shame. 2 for 2 so far :(

I just didn't like the way mine turned out. I was goofing off with a bunch of friends and it was shot poorly.

Having ridden in your car and knowing how small it is, I'm just glad that you weren't injured. What a shame though. We carry an "uninsured motorist" provision on our policy just for that purpose.

Haven't you racked up enough miles on that thing anyway?

Check with your insurance company on the "uninsured motorist" provision. I thought the same way, that I would cover damage to my car. About 5 years ago, a friend of mine was driving my truck and was hit by an uninsured driver. I thought, no problem, I have "uninsured motorist" on my policy.

Turns out that it does not cover damage to your car, it covers your medical expenses if you are hurt by an uninsured driver. Your regular insurance pays for your vehicle damage, just like you hit a wall or something.

Be sure to check with them!
