Idea for the Winner of DVC7

Im probably not going to win unless everyone else hits the wall of shame, so I just wanted to propose a great charity.

Habitat for Humanity

Unlike many charities that temporarily provide people with emergency releif food/clothes/shelter Habitat actually buys foreclosed homes and empty lots, and then has people volunteer their time to build/completely redo the interior of a house. The people receiving the houses are requested to work a certain number of hours helping to build other peoples homes, and then get to use the skills they've learned to design and build their own home with the help of volunteers and others who are joining the program.

I have personally worked on houses as they have been redone and have enjoyed nothing more than taking a sledgehammer to old rotting walls in order to fix a house up.

If anyone is uncertain of a charity and you happen to win, I just wanted to offer this as one of the charitys that really helps people.

Anyone else have any great charitys that we could contribute to?

Habitat for humanity is good...theres always red cross and probably countless charities with the recent hurricanes and tornadoes

If it was me, I prefer to donate to small charities. $500 for Red Cross is a drop in the bucket, but for a small charity (see Lorinda's choice last year) it makes a hell of a difference. Small charities often have a harder time raising money too, as they don't have the massive advertising campains.
