That confused me too. I actually checked my email a few times. I think it is because often in the signup process for sites there is a checkbox for something like Do you wish to be informed about NEW POSTS or DEALS or whatever and it usually means by email.
If you want to be creative, perhaps another word would be less confusing.
Photons from our fantastic site last impacted your eyeballs on...

Come to think of it, I don't actually need to be told when I last visited the site. I already know that. What would be more useful there, to me, would be the last time someone replied to one of my posts.
