The THEME for DVC/UWOL 2nd Annual Challenge – GO! GO! GO!

Ready to roll??? All right, then!! The theme for the 2nd Annual DVC/UWOL Charity Challenge is:

GIFTS

Here are the rules, abbreviated from and including exceptions to The DV Challenge: * Official Rules and The UWOL Challenge - Wildlife & Outdoor based film competition

• Five minutes maximum length, not including credits

• All new footage shot especially for this challenge

• Royalty-free music or proof of permission. Basically, no copyright infringement allowed.

• DV Challenge entries (narratives) should include “thedvchallenge.com presents.”

• All entries should include a good, descriptive title. It’s hard for judges to keep films straight with titles like “Gifts,” “A Gift,” “The Gift,” so please be creative.

• Photo montages and animation (including stop-motion) are not acceptable as submissions. Films may include photo montages and animation in limited quantity if it is critical to the story. Visual effects of all types are allowed.

• All films must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. MST on Sunday, January 10, 2010.

• DV Challenge entries—post your completed film to YouTube and/or Vimeo and email the link(s) to thedvchallenge@gmail.com.

• UWOL entries—please follow the protocol as outlined in the UWOL rules 6, 7, 8. The UWOL Challenge - Wildlife & Outdoor based film competition You are encouraged to also post to YouTube and/or Vimeo and email those links to thedvchallenge@gmail.com if you wish. All links will be included for viewing.

• You retain 100% ownership of your film, and are 100% responsible for its content.

• When you submit a film you are a judge. Also, anyone who donates to the charity pool is a judge.

Any questions? Just ask! If not, get going!!! :)

If you are reading this and haven’t signed up and/or donated yet, come join the fun and help some great charity!

Sorry I almost missed ya, Mike. You can dream about "GIFTS" all night now. :)

Trond Saetre December 10th, 2009 10:50 AM

This can be interesting!

UWOL Rule #11 is valid folks, and should be strictly followed! :)
Have fun!

GIFTS is a gift...it's open season, everybody!

Steve Siegel December 10th, 2009 06:41 PM

Can't wait to see these. I wonder what kind of "gift" our Sicilian friend will come up with.

We shall see....

I feel the same way, Andris. At first I thought it sounded tough, then I decided it wouldn't be too bad; now I'm back to thinking it's really tough again. But I think that's supposed to be part of the challenge... :)

Hmm just found this thread and picked up a new camera. Sounds tempting. Lets see if I can convince my friend to jump in and then we can have a film!

Only a week, ah!

Lorinda, does this mean 5:00 or is 5:59 still valid?
I'm editing right now and would like to know if I need to walk over bones to shorten it by about 30s.
Not asking for any favour, just clarification - I can always cut it.
Thanks!

Lorinda Norton January 9th, 2010 12:11 PM

That's a good question, Andris. In the past Dylan has always said the credits could lengthen it another 20 or 30 seconds, so if you can pare it down that would be cool. Remember...it needs to be because of credits that it goes over 5 minutes. :)
