Long Life DVD/HD-DVD on regular DVD
I just got a couple of links from a friend and business associate in Japan
One company has announced a long life DVD (100 year) and CD (300 year) I certainly recommend writing a few of them and waiting around to see if the data is still there at the end of the period:<) Toshiba has also announced a sub $1000 HD-DVD recorderthat writes two hours of content to normal DVD's. According to the article, it will be available (at least in Japan) by year end. They expect that at some later date the capability will be added to their regular DVD recorders. Here are the links. They're in Japanese, but should show that this is not just speculation/rumor on my part. http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...71031/hsgi.htm http://www.itmedia.co.jp/news/articl...1/news095.html |
Archival Gold disks have been in stores for quite a while, I've seen the first one probably a year ago at Microcenter.

Those are stand-alone units. We need computer parts.
The HDDVD consortium is behind in the recording race. |
