Check out the price watch list in the upper right hand corner

Yeah I knew it was only a matter of time before other manufacturers follow Sony's lead. Watch in like a year or so everyone will agree on one format and these dual format DVD-RW drives will be needless.

The NEC is the one I've heard most good stuff about.

I don't know who'd be selling it for $173, but $184 is the lowest I've seen from my list of 'reliable' vendors.

Add $50 for an external firewire case, and boom, for about $230, instant external firewire dual format DVD burner.

Wahoo! Love technology and falling prices.

This is untrue. If they decide on a format you already have the
capability to burn this format. Whatever way it goes. It will either
be - or + that will win. Not a new format. So with a multiformat
burner you can just go with the flow.

That's what I meant- in that our multi-format burners will be unnecessary/overkill. But I guess it's best to be safe if there is an agreed format in the near future. Similar things were happening when the CD-R era came along.
