DVD burner blues

We are about to return our second HP DVD burner (200e), and I am more and more convinced HP is not the company it used to be. This thread is in effort to share my experiences with others, and I am now the happy owner of a Sony 510a. It works very well. I should have bought a Sony to begin with!

Thanks for sharing that.

When I purchase, I'll go with either a Sony or the Pioneer that a lot of folks like.

Brad,

Great !

The next step is to choose reliable media and stick with it.
With my Pioneer A04, I've had great luck with TDK 2x DVD-R and
Ritek 4x DVD-R (although my burner only does 2x). For DVD-RW,
I've only experienced good luck with Ritek and Maxell. Princo DVD-RWs flopped for me, all 5 of 5. However, that may have been an early or flawed production run last year. Check out allmediaoutlet.com for bulk DVDs.

Also, many firmware upgrades, both hacked and official, exist. If your drive is working, don't mess with it. A number of people have been unlucky with firmware upgrades and the problems associated with downgrading.

Hi Brad.

My experience is oposite.

I work with a HP 100i and a HP 200i without any kind of trouble.
Maybe you were realy unlucky, or external models are more prone to problems.
Also, I'v burned hundreds of HP DVD+R/RW media without a glitch.

Good luck.
Arnaldo
