Progressive scan and DVD
 

I'm new to digital video and dvd authoring, so bear with me if this question make no sense. I am going to buy the dvx-100a and shoot in the 24p mode.

How does progressive scan affect me when it comes to dvd authoring? Do I need certain software to handle it? Can I burn my movie onto any DVD media, or do I need a special kind of disk?

Again, I am completly new to this. I plan on using Final Cut Pro 4. Don't know if that info is relevant.

Discs are the same, authoring requires your MPG2 to be encoded in standard progressive 24p

if you import your mpg2 to your authoring app and make sure it's not re-encoded you shouldn't have a problem..

it really depends on what editor and authoring app you use..

most work well with this format.

FCP will work fine with the chosen format and frame rate, i dont know about the audio features of it though...

You don't need other disks. You will need an MPEG2 encoder that
can encode 24p material (I believe it is running at 23.976 fps)
and an authoring package that supports it.

The MPEG2 encoder that comes with Vegas seems to do it and
I do believe its authoring package DVD Architect can do it as well
as Adobe's authoring package Encore.

EDIT: I just read your part about planning to use FCP and other
Mac software. Doh. Sorry about my PC software ramblings. I can't
imagine DVD Studio Pro not supporting this (or FCP for that matter)!

FCP and DVD Studio Pro work very well for producing 24p DVD's (actuall 23.98fps). I even did so from a 60i shoot using my Standards Conversion plugins to produce a 23.98 master, and I then made the DVD from that and it worked great!
