DVD menu/navigation

Hello,

I've just bought a g4 and have started using fcp4. Having great fun! However, I want to create a dvd with an interactive plot. The planned movie plays and pauses at a point where the dvd software gives you two or three choices, based on your choice the correct chapter plays next, and so on. I've been told that dvstudio or something would be able to put this feature on a dvd.

Any comments on this would be appreciated!

I think I'm going to buy DVD Studio Pro for this.
Has anyone used DVD Studio Pro to make an interactive story? If so, are there any issues I should know about?

Not sure if there are things you need to know about but dvdsp can handle the project.

I think what you are trying to do is possible. Like this:

1. menu
2. movie 1
3. menu
4. movie 2
5. menu

etc.

If DVDSP allows you to go to a DIFFERENT menu AFTER a movie
is finished you are all set.

Just think of splicing your movie up into multiple parts and putting
menu's inbetween them. So it is not one big movie with pauses
in it.

It might even work with one big movie and chapter points. The
DVD spec probably allows to jump to a menu when the movie
reaches a certain chapter point and a certain register is NOT
set correctly. The menu would then set the register and jump
back to the chapter point.

That would be a more complicated approach since you would
have to do some actual programming instead of just linking. Not
sure whether DVDSP supports such things at that level either,
but the spec probably does.

I hope these ideas will point you into the right direction. Good luck!
