Ordered the Epson 960 for its direct DVD printing ability
 

Anyone here own this printer? I'd love to hear your opinion.

I recently had a 24hour DVD burning fiasco due to my mistake of using a DVD label. Even when I burned it first and then labelled it afterwards, it still skipped like crazy in the 40 minute zone.

Hopefully, the printable DVDs are not so susceptible to this.

EDIT : if this is in the wrong forum, sorry mods. I did a search for DVD labels and Epson and most of the results were here. 8^)

I'm fairly happy with mine. The tray system for CD/DVD printing is a bit clunky and I find that if things aren't lined up exactly so, the printer will reject the process and I have to restart it. But the print results are beautiful.

Any problems playing the DVD's after the prints? Where do you order your printable DVD's from?

I've ordered a lot of DVD supplies from allmediaoutlet.com .
Largely, I've used the Ritek DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RWs .
The've worked very well, as expected, but I've had some
trouble with my last batch of Ritek silver top DVD-Rs in
that they burn at 2x rather than 4x on my new Pioneer A07.

though I would stick to major brand names if you're interested
in reliability. I have never printed on a DVD-R, though I'm just about ready to pick up an Epson R800.

I do own some DVD-R that were printed, and there is a concern about smudging. Here is a thread on sealant :

Being a cheapskate by nature, I opted for the R200, which is now list priced at $99.00!! It works great, with the same caveat that Charles mentioned.

I don't know what the advantage is with the obviously more expensive R900.

I bought a stack of Maxell discs, and all is well.

If anyone knows how to create a label with transparency, so you could see the silver disc through certain areas of the label, I would be interested. Right now I have the white discs, but I saw a dvd that used this process on a silver disc, and thought it was pretty hip.

I have one and am happy with it. Don't be suprised if you have to use a .5-.6mm offset to center the printing. I also use Maxell media.

I use the R300 and have printed around 800 disks on it so far. It does a nice job and I've had no complaints from customers. As mentioned above, you do need to align the tray fairly accurately and lately mine does not fully eject the tray when the print operation is complete. The rollers seem to be slipping on eject and sometimes on initial load, but never during the print process. I haven't tried cleaning them yet, but expect that to solve the problem.

I have used inkjet printable (white) Ritek DVD-R disks exclusively and purchase them in bulk from www.rima.com. I think the cost was down to about $0.62/each. Seems to be a little cheaper every time I order.
