Create 2 1/2 hr. DVD movie using iDVD?
 

I have a movie I edited w/FCPHD that is 2 1/2 hrs. long that I need to put on DVD. Is there a way I can do this using Compressor or Quicktime? I need to put the entire video on one DVD even if the overall quality is not the absolute best.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

2.5 hours is usually just too much to fit on a DVD-R. Depending
on certain factors. If I remember correctly didn't iDVD have a
certain limit which was either 1 or 2 hours as well?

Just upgraded to iDVD4 from 3 so that I could get more than 90 min. I'm pretty sure that the new limit is 2 hours. Chris

The limit is 2 hrs. with iDVD4, but I thought it went by file size and not the time. I figured if the file size could be decreased I should be able to fit more than 2 hrs. on a DVD. If someone knows if this can be done, please, let me know.

Not with iDVD. iDVD does it by time because it chooses how to compress the MPEG2 data based on it. It is pretty stupid, it has one set of settings for anything under 60 min, then 90, and then 2 hours I believe. It won't let you configure it to do something like a super compressed MPEG2 for a 150 minute DVD.

Quicktime won't help, but maybe Compressor could do it, I have no idea though. Unfortunately, I don't think you could trick iDVD either by making a larger disk image (something like 6.5 GB) and then using a tool like DVD2ZoneX to compress the "disc" down. I believe iDVD will only burn to DVDs, but I can't remember as I don't have my mac in front of me... there might be an archive or something added to 4.x that might let you do this...
