Is it possible that you used old bitmapped fonts? If they are not TrueType or other scalable fonts, you'll see the effect of upscaling a bitmap. Never a pretty sight :)

I'm wondering if he's still scaling incorrectly. The pixel aspect setting above might be causing problems (should be set to square). If he's using LiveType, they should look great unless something's scaling incorrectly.
