What is an HD DVD?

I thought you could make an HDV 1080i60 DVD on a G5 w/ DVD Studio Pro? Today someone told me there are no HD DVDs? And there are some posts here that make wonder: Do you need an "HD DVD" to burn an HDV 1080i60 video onto a DVD? Can't you burn with ANY blank DVD and your video will still be in HD?

I'm no expert, but, you can burn HD on a regular dvd. You maybe only get 21 minutes on a single layer and 42 minutes on a dual layer. You can burn them with your regular dvd burner, then you can then play them on an hd-dvd player. They do make hd-dvd blanks which will hold more data. HD-dvd's share the same format as a regular dvd.
On the other hand. If you go to the blue-ray. You will need a blue ray dvd burner, blue-ray blank disks and a blue-ray player, all big bucks.
