DV to H.264 for archiving on Data DVD?

I have bunch of NTSC DV clips that I would like to batch convert to H.264 hoping for a minimal quality loss with better compression ratio.

Is there a way to do this?

There are various software compression packages. Sorenson Squeeze is one I would look at.
