anyone know of a DVD player with a jog dial?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a dvd player with a jog dial in a similar style as the CDJ-1000.

it basically lets you scratch cds as if they were vinyl, has a reverse button and a pitch control. A DVD player built like this would be ideal for live performances. I create nightclub visuals with my XM-2 & After Effects, and would like to burn my visuals to DVD, enabling a digital connection to the projector.

However all DVD players seem to be designed to be used from armchairs, definitely not with fast cueing in mind.

I do know some higher-end DVD players (I think some Philips
models as well) have jog dials. I don't know how well you would
be able to use this for scrubbing so to speak. I've tried one
myself and they work fine for speeding through a scene and then
slowing down and pausing and going frame by frame etc.

had a look in the electronics shops in London, yesterday, I think I spotted the Philips machine you were talking about Rob

Not too robust! I doubt it would last me more than three months judging from the build quality of the jog dial itself. I spotted a few ultra slim sony units that had more robust dials, but I'm pretty certain now that the product I'm looking for does not yet exist.

Which sucks because even if a company did decide to build one, it'll be at least two years of R & D until a manufacturer could create such a product

What are you looking for exactly that is not built yet?

check my first post again;

basically a DVD player which has been designed with fast cueing and image manipulation in mind - a player designed to be used with accuracy from its front panel and not from an armchair.

the machine would be designed for VJ use, people who provide visuals for night clubs & dance events. They would have 2 machines and mix between them in time with the music using a vision mixer

incidentally I had a look at your website, the Lady - X idea looks cool, I was interested in writing a little script and sending it in but i see the series is almost finished. Well done for getting them all lined up before production, talk about organised!!

You are asking for a very specific feature indeed. Perhaps you
are better off to look at professional high-end DVD gear. I don't
know of any to point you into the right direction, sorry.

Thanks for the comments on the site! You can still send us an
e-mail if you are interested. It might happen that a spot comes
available due to unforseen circumstances and we might be able
to give it to someone else!

Good luck on your search!
