7D and Toronto's NUIT BLANCHE

Just 3 of us messing around, testing out the low-light... some shaky stuff, but overall I think the camera performed well...

Matthew
Very nice and filmic stuff. It`s incredible what this camera can do with available light.
Could you let us know what resolution, lenses, picture profile and iso did you use?
Best
Ron

This was shot at 1080p24p with Canon 35mm f/1.4, 70-200mm f/2.8 IS, 50mm f/1.8 and 17-55 2.8 efs.
Picture profiles were default, we just turned down the sharpness to negative 3 or 4.
ISO was typically between 1600 and 3200, though it dipped down to 800 when possible. Shutter speed was maintained at 1/50th of a second.

No additional gear was used except Manfrotto and Gitzo monopods.

Strange question, but why did you use two different monopods? Thanks. Great work.

Matthew Nayman October 17th, 2009 01:25 PM

Honestly? Just what we had lying around ;)

Really nice stuff Matt. Did you do something about the noise in post? From the testsI have done so far, at 1600 ISO and above, will pretty usable, there is definetly some apparent noise. I don't saw a lot of noise in your footage but it might be because of the compression to vimeo...

Matthew Nayman October 17th, 2009 08:19 PM

At full resolution, there is SOME noise, but frankly, not a lot. Some of it is lost to the vimeo comrpession, but in general, it looks pretty good up to 1600, and 3200 is usable...
