Goin' to the Dogs - a Canon 7D Slow Motion Capabilities Test

This clip is a test of the 7D slow motion look when converted to 24p. I think it turned out pretty well. I will definitely be shooting for slo-mo in the future.

Looks good can you walk me through your work flow please?

Bill Vincent November 4th, 2009 11:57 AM

Hey Jerry,

Workflow:

1. Shoot with the 7D at 1280x720 60fps
2. Convert the footage using Compressor - my settings were Apple ProRes422 codec with the Frame Rate set to "current". This makes the footage playable in FCP easily.
3. Use Cinema Tools to conform - select "24" as the frame rate. (backup files first, because there is NO undo!) Now the clips should play in slow motion.
4. Bring the clips into FCP and edit as usual.
5. Export using a 24 fps setting with your favorite output codec.

Philip Bloom does a tutorial on this:

Hope this helps...

Slow Mo w/ other footage ?

Bill,

After you shoot the 1280x720 and convert to 24 w/ Cinema Tools, must it be used in a 720 timeline with all other 720 footage, or can it be used w/ 1080 shot footage seamlessly and a still "editable" format?

Thanks!!

You can drop the 720P footage into a 1080P timeline and it will dit just fine as long as the frame rates are the same.
