T2i music video - shot entirely handheld

I thought I'd post an example of how camera support isn't absolutely essential depending on the look that you're going for. I used the Canon 17-55 IS EFs and kept the camera strap taut around my neck for added stability. Also, shooting in 30p or higher and conforming to 24p will smooth out any remaining shake.

GREAT work! Also a great song! Did you speed up the song at all to be able to slow down the frame rate? Well done, this is a good video to show clients that might be concerned about the quality that comes out of the camera!

David Ells August 4th, 2010 10:33 AM

Thanks! Yes I sped up the song. I actually did the math wrong, though, which I was kicking myself for a long time over. I sped it up to 120% instead of 125% so I would lose sync after about 3 seconds. Fortunately the cuts were frequent enough that I didn't need to worry about that. Once the packing peanuts started flying I actually shot in 60p, but I did the math right that time. :)

That was going to be my next question! (percentage that is...) Awesome... LOVE the look of it!

Great work -- was that the 2.8? Nice glass --

David Ells August 4th, 2010 07:37 PM

Thanks guys! Yeah it's the 2.8, I should have listed that in the specs. I highly recommend it as a first lens if you're doing pro work and anticipate doing run and gun at all. IS works great. Still trying to decide on a second piece of glass. Leaning toward wide for my work.
