Another music vid....

Ok....

this was a very quick shoot.... 3 hours.... and only roughly cut together. I'll be making a lot of changes to the edits.

total shoot file folder size with all takes is 17.5GB

This is completely raw footage from the 5d2 with no grading or filters at all.

Shot with "portrait" style, canon 35mm f1.4 L and 85mm f1.2 L II lenses. 2 flolight 500 led lights where used.... but mostly available light and camera kept at the daylight white balance preset. I wish I'd set the "hight priority" but forget.

Where does love go ... Misty

camera was on a indiesliderpro with a bogen 501 head atop some bogen sticks.

Clean video...!!

Jaw-dropping!

Superb "first draft", Chris . . . I'd be ecstatic with that for my finished product!

Nice
I really like what a slider does with video. The combo of slider and dof control really add to the lok

Christopher Witz December 13th, 2008 08:38 AM

Yes... I think the slider really adds to creating a 3dish space.

I was listening to a tribeca podcast last summer and a DP that did the 1st couple of Coen brother films said that one should never pan... ever. And that has stuck with me. I don't use zoom or pan during a take anymore and I think it really helps make the film more technically transparent.

I have a confession to make.... I have not pulled my ex1 out of the bag since I got the 5d2.... but to be fair, I've not had a job that required audio or long takes.

The workflow with the 5d2 and fcp is just so fricken easy... and I'm a lazy sod at heart.... so being able to yank a card... stab it in a CF express adaptor in the MBP and drag the .mov's to a folder without using any tranfer tool.... then dragging the .mov's into fcp.... it's just so easy and fast.

I see that company is coming out with IndiTRACpro. It looks like that may be a reasonable cost too. You may never need to pan again

Oleg Kalyan December 13th, 2008 12:26 PM

Christopher, thank you for showing it, looks very nice!

Since you have EX! camera, have you compared it to 5mk2 ?
would be great to see shot to shot similarity..

Cheers!

Christopher Witz December 13th, 2008 12:30 PM

no side by side comparisons... I'm planning a 2 camera shoot later next week.... so that should show something.

Richard Killey December 13th, 2008 01:34 PM

WOW! And you called it a first draft!

Marcus Marchesseault December 13th, 2008 11:02 PM

Concerning the light coming through the railing that looks like sunlight, is that natural sunlight or artificial light? It seems like a powerful light far away as the shadows don't splay out like from a near point light. I guess I should ask, where are the studio lights in this video?

Christopher Witz December 14th, 2008 06:03 AM

that light is 1 led500 from flolight.

same with the pizza and mantle scenes... led500's ( 2 )

hallway with wedding dress... 1 led500 bounced off the ceiling.

by the way... these lights are fantastic! I also use coolights 150 hmi fresnel's a lot as well.

and I have a bunch of 6 and 4 bank flo's from flolight as well.... but really only use them if I really need to bring the levels up.

I cut my teeth back in the 80's shooting 8X10 stills of room sets for furniture ads and catalogs.... and tend to use most of my lights bounced off of walls/foamcore and ceilings.... but add a rear/side light for shape.
