Footage is nice, yet, crashed blacks and clipped highlights kills my interest to watch,
sorry. Author needs to read DVinfo forum more often, to work out 0 255 RGB gamma.

IMHO

I liked it, granted I agree with the blown highlights and of course with the need to read dvi. Sorry couldn't resist. But this video raises a question for me.

Previously in action footage I've seen a lot of jello and rolling shutter. Which has kept me away from buying. But I saw almost no rolling shutter in these clips. What gives?

Oleg Kalyan January 12th, 2009 11:40 PM

Yes, I've noticed that too.
Lot of times wide angle lens produces no jello effect even with dynamic yet predictable camera movement shots, on the other hand had some jello on some stationary shots with little movement of the camera with telephoto lens..

Jon Fairhurst January 13th, 2009 11:39 AM

True. If you go wide enough with the lens, handheld is fine. Also, panning in one direction is often acceptable, but once the motion stops and reverses direction, the rolling shutter is really noticeable. (See Dan Chung's Hoop Dreams on Vimeo for an example.)
