5D2 Aerial Tilt Shift

Thought I would share these aerial tilt shift shots I did a few days ago. Just a few clips from an ongoing project

Reminds me of a dream I had as a kid.... except I had missiles.

LOVE the video and am hyper jealous that I don't have a helicoper.

The music has to go though. Doesn't fit this at all.

Which lens did you use?

Steve Maller March 9th, 2009 12:51 PM

Lovely stuff. A few questions:

1) why the T/S lens? it looks in several places like you're actually flying over a small model of a town. maybe that's the desired effect. ;)
2) what do you use to stabilize the camera?
3) do you have a remote onboard, or do you just hit the "record" button before lift-off?
4) what kind of copter is this?

I agree that the town looked like a miniature, with was fun to look at for a bit. Was that the super-wide lens, or the T/S effect?

You can also get that "miniature look" in post:

Personally, I love the effect. Reminds me of Gumby and Pokey somehow.

Thanks for the comments,

I used the Canon 24mm TSe Lens for the effect.

More info on the chopper with a few pics here:

Steve, Why?? Why not I guess.....I have always enjoyed the tilt shift miniature effect.....and I have a remote helicam that I fly everyday so the marriage seemed natural. The chopper has a remote control that allows you to start recording once airborne and the gimbal is gyrostabilized. The copter is custom made but uses a lot of parts from the minicopter joker (minicopter ® - RC-Helikopter und Zubehör)
