Interesting Article about Solid State Drives

One of the great things being touted about solid state drives is their minimal power consumption which means longer run times for all devices using them - which I am assuming includes all new and future direct to disk recorders.

Anyways, I came across this interesting article actually testing the SSD power consumption and the results are not favorable!

Here is the link - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...tery,1955.html

Solid State is great since there are no moving parts and your data is more secure from damage, but I am hoping they can somehow iron out the potential run time issues and put together a device that can run for hours on one light small battery.

Give it a few months.

Efficiency is bound to improve since this is a relatively new consumer sector.

In the mean time, how long before 64GB CF cards are common place? Flash SSDs are great an all but I much rather have a dozen 64GB UDMA cards and several UDMA/FW CF card readers to travel with - lighter, stronger, cheaper, less worrisome.

Just my 2 bits.

Justin.
