DV Info Net - Damaged video files recovery

Hi,
I have some Quicktime files that were recorded on a VIO POV.1 helmetcam. I shot 5 2GB SD cards worth of video (total 7 hours) and all the footage is fine except for the file from the last SD card. I tried playback on the monitor of the helmetcam but it didn't work. I tried all the video players on my computer including Final Cut Pro but none would play the footage.

I'm still tracking down what caused the problem. This was the first time that I used the SD card in my camera. I own a Colorspace portable harddrive with viewing monitor to backup my SD and CF cards. It also has a scan feature and I just scanned the SD card in quesion and it found no faulty sections. If it finds no bad areas, is it safe to use it again? I would probably just record garbage footage first to make sure it's really working well before doing something more important.

I then tried VLC player and got this message:
"AVI Index
This AVI file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly.
Do you want to try to repair it?

This might take a long time."

So I clicked repair and the contorller window showed "Fixing AVI INdex..." with a little progress bar. After a few minutes (for the approx. 1.5 hour long file) the footage started to play well!!

I thought that the file was permanently fixed, but when I tried to play it in other players I had the same problem as before. I had to go back to VLC and fix the AVI index again. Is there any way to save the changes that VLC has performed to the AVI Index so that I can view the file in another video player like Final Cut Pro? Or any other software that can do the same thing as VLC?
