Fragmentation

Will the FireStore disc drives be prone to fragmentation issues after heavy capture and delete sequences?
Thanks.

Rob Lohman August 14th, 2004 05:50 AM

Yes. Every non-linear system is prone to this. But not if you wipe
all the recorded data of it and start new.

Bill Anderson August 14th, 2004 09:15 AM

Rob, indeed every non linear system will be prone to this but not every non linear system has the added respnsibility to capture and store the camera original footage. In many situations this might be the only reference.
But, if you say the wiping of the data will restore the drive to its original condition that's good news - not to mention the added backup of capturing to tape which I guess would be crazy to overlook. Is it possible or recommended to write zeros to the disc. Thanks for the info.

Hi Bill,

It is possible to format a drive on all FireStore models. Doing this regularly will prevent problems. We recommend this is done before each new record session begins.

Hope this helps,

Matt McEwen
