hi have a question about the fs-4 and quickstream

i read that there is the fs-4 and fs-4 pro.

if i buy the fs-4 (not pro), it does not have "loop playback capabilities"

does that mean that i canNOT hit a button and have that video segment instantly play back on my viewfinder or lcd screen?

umm about the quickstream.. is it "dte" (direct to edit)?

if not..... whats the difference or amount of labor difference betweent he fs-4's dte technology and quickstream?

-thx

Hi Arthur,

Both FS-4 and FS-4Pro enable you to preview any of the clips on disk back through your camcorder's viewfinder (provided, of course, your camcorder has a DV in and out port). The Loop Playback capability on FS-4 is for continuous loop playback sequences of a single clip or the entire disk.

Also, DTE or Direct To Edit (DTE) Technology is a trademark and unique technology to Focus Enhancements that allows you to record edit ready clips directly to disk in any one of ten native DV NLE file formats. Currently, only FireStore products feature this technology and it has been OEM'd to JVC and Ikegami.

Hope that helps,

thx

wow thx, that DOES help as far as my decision on buying which one.

just one last question though, so the quickstream does NOT have dte..... so lets say i record and go to my pc and plug it in, what additional steps of labor must i take for the clips to be ready to edit..?

-thx

The Quickstream clips may or may not import directly into your editor, you'll have to check their support site to see.

But do your due diligence -- there have been many reports about the Quickstream's reliability, or lack thereof. From the research I've done, the nNovia QuickCapture seems like a much more solid and reliable product than the QuickStream, and the FireStore FS-4 looks very promising as well.
