When you bring a PSD into AE and want to get some depth between the layers, it's my understanding that you have to move the position for each layer so that they are further or closer in 3D space. So if you move your background layer further away, it gets smaller in the frame. Bringing the scale up can compensate for this but seems like a waste of time. I have the image set the way I want it and I don't understand why I have to move things in 3D space, THEN adjust the scale of the layer just to get the image back to normal.
Seems like there should be a hot key or something so that when you drag the layer away from you, the image size does not change within the frame. We should be able to move the layers and After Effects should adjust the scale automatically to compensate. Does such a thing exist? Am I right that everyone using a camera with PSDs has to move the position AND the scale for every single layer?

Can someone give me some suggestions on how to go about using After Effects to change the colors of the leaves on a tree from green (real color) to brown, dying?

The shot I have to do in December is of a magical boy can make trees or anything else turn old and die by his thoughts. He looks up at the tree and it starts to wither and die before his eyes.

Magicboy looks up into the tree, the camera booms and pans up following his head movement. The tree at first looks normal, but as he's doing his "magic" on it, within 3-4 seconds the tree changes from lush green, to yellow/brown and leaves start to blow off with the wind.

Any suggestions for setting up the actual shot, and then After Effecting workflow the color transitions?

I am at a client's place right now working on a basic corporate animation. the animation is about 3 minutes long, and merely requires a series of objects to appear and have a connectivity animation move between them along a motion path. Pretty simple stuff.

This animation is nested in another timeline which I simply zoom in and out of where it is needed. Think of it as a 2d camera cheat.

On my PC at home, something like this would export very quickly, but on my macbook its dragging. I have tried bouncing to flv, quicktime, uncompressed, etc. Now, animation seems to work better than h264 in quicktime, but I am now trying flv, which is a little bit faster.

This is last season's white macbook. Now, I know CPU and RAM are huge issues, but I have rendered similar stuff out of motion with motion blur and lighting and not had a problem (half hour to hour render time at 2minutes of footage). In After Effects, my render times have gone from six up to now 13 hours. Any thoughts on how I could improve this workflow? What might be slowing my machine down?

I am having issues in getting a nice, sharp video animation from After Effects into Flash.

I have tried exporting it as a .flv and it produces embarrassing results. The elements in the video are hugely pixelated and just flat-out unacceptable.

I have also tried the new .XFL export that takes the AE comp and converts it to be opened in Flash. And yet when I do this, it says that my comp is "too large" to be opened in Flash. Sure enough, it crashes Flash.

Does anyone know of a good workaround to transfer projects between these applications without a huge quality loss? Please help!
