Ricoh have just announced the GXR.

Ricoh GXR interchangeable unit camera, previewed: Digital Photography Review

It's a small camera, and it (uniquely) has interchangeable lenses with attached sensors. From the description it sounds like a competitor to the new Olympus Pen.

I took a quick look at the spec sheet, and it offers 1280 x 720 resolution at 24 fps. So I thought that it might just be of interest.

d90 stolen from my dad for a couple of days...Gimme suggestions please!

i gotta tell you this story, my dad bought the d90 a couple of days ago cause he is so into Photography world, now i'm very curious to use it to record videos in HD, most of i wanna record interviews with shallow depth of field( blurred background).Now i wanna ask you a little step by step guide on how to set it to get hd videos with the blurred background.Could you help me?Which lenses do you suggest me to mount?

I really appreciate your help in my first step in this new world (hope my hd cam wouldn't be jealous).

Overheating: Nikon vs Canon

Trying to decide between Nikon D300s or Canon 7D/5DMarkII for video shooting.
Would go with Canon for the higher res but overheating seems worse in those.
Just wondering: Any one tested or can confirm Canon overheats first?

Cheapie kitlike Nikkor G type VR DX 18-55mm or Tamron f/2.8 (more details found below)...Which one would you (or do) use?

Or more specifically, the lens under close scrunity/consideration is as follows:

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital CamerasZoom Super Wide Angle With Built-In Motor. Mfr# AF016NII-700 Current cost is about $450 USD on average.

The D90 is my first DLSR with HD video ever and 1st DSLR period.... a huge jump up to what I did have at least as far as camera specs are concerned & need sage advice as to how to proceed in order to make a prompt, educated and informed decision & finalize on a suitable lens whether to its used for pictures or video.

Anybody here shoot video with this particular lens?

Should I upgrade/upscale from the AF-S Nikkor 18-55 mm 1-3.5-5.6G VR DX lens to the Tamron as given above? Yes, the Tamron has no IS but from reading around the net it seems to offer a sharp picture at a reasonable price if you get a good copy. I was told the Nikor G type lens are cheap are not all that great.

What would you do in my position and who wants to do it right the first time to the extent possible without going overboard in terms of expense/cost? How easy is it to blur and shake the picture with this lens seeing that it has no image stabilization built in?

Love to hear from this forum especially owners of the above lens so I can get suggestions and recommendations in regards to how to proceed. Experiences welcomed.

The cons given by users from reading around seem to be considerable which I won't list here however the vast majority seem to stem/originate from having a bad lens that should have never passed through the QA/QC inspector.

Look forward to hearing from you as I need to make a decision fast so a return-swap can be made if necessary before time runs out on that opportunity.

I'm very, very interested in this camera, but can't find any sample 720p footage.

Do we know what bitrates are available on this model? Are they the same as the K-7?

And is there an audio input?

on looking at the specs there appears to be a difference - mention of 24 OR 25 frame rates (depending on country) as opposed to the 7D which lists both frame rates (an international version)

or am I missing something?

I did a Nikon D90 test. I set the Picture control to Portrait. I set the camera to +5 on sharpness, +1 on contrast, +1 on saturation and I left the rest on 0. You can also do -1 on contrast if you have lots of light.

I shot a girl with these settings and it came out awesome. But she did not want to be posted on the web., So I tried it out on my cats.

No color grading. Straight out of the camera edited together and thrown up on youtube.

lens used 50mm F/1.8 existing overhead 60 watt bulb was all that was on in the room.
ISO 400..

D90 vs t1i first slr

I am picking up my first slr and can't choose between the d90 and t1i. First of all stills are the most important. I have a canon hfs100 for videos but would like a vdslr to supplement it in some cases. To my knowledge the d90 has alot more photo features than the t1i. Video wise which cam has the better compression. I know that in the d90 it is mjpeg at about 10-25mbps bit rate. What about the t1i? What bit rate is it and I believe it is an h.264 compression. I definitely know that the d90 has more rolling shutter artifacts. Audio wise i know they are both crap. This will be my first dslr so I want to choose wisely. BTW (I'm no camera noob so don't treat me differently lol).

Canon 7D as subforum?

Took delivery of Canon 7D, and it shoots great movies (tested in 1080p24 mode.)
