Convert to YV12 in VDUB for DVD?

1) Render out 1280X720 Cineform "highest" Intermediary file from Vegas 9C as Cineform .avi (use .709, up convert to 4:4:4, Higher HD, Progressive, square Pixels 1.0)

2) Import into Vdub using Avisynth 2.5 script (Dan Isaacs - hd2sd("filename.avi", Interlaced = false) and use Lanczo3 to re-size to 720X480

3) Export using Lagarith lossless Codec

4) Import into HCEncode using Avisynth 2.5 and script provided by "Fit2disc"

I've been pretty happy with the results so far, but one thing that I seem to have to do in HCEncode is add "ConvertToYV12() "

Today messing around in Vdub I noticed that in the Lagarith settings I can tell it to output in YV12.

My question is, should I do this in Vdub or just do it in HC encode or am I totally daft here?

Thanks in advance for help!

I have a 9 way duplicator that has started to play up (only 5 of the drives burn consistently). I'm trying to nail down the most likely cause - I think i can rule out the power supply as it is the same ports and I think I can rule out the drives themselves. This really only leaves the controller which is a wytron dvd 3000 model.

I've actually swapped the drives around and the bad burns/not recognising media seem to folllow the ports themselves.

All I can tell you about when it actually started to fail my wife was helping me burn some dance concert DVD's and it took 3 hours to complete a pass - obviously one of the burns was bad and it slowed right down trying to compensate. Normally if I'd have been doing a burn and noticed a dud disc I'd have pulled it as the drives start to work really hard.

So is my best bet to buy a new controller? Is it common for these things to fail partially?

Low audio levels in DVD Studio Pro

I need some help with the audio quality of my DVDs. Everything sounds alright on my editing computer from within Final Cut and it sounds alright when I "simulate disc" prior to burning. But when I play the DVD in a standalone DVD player, the audio is noticeably lower.

I'm using Final Cut Studio as my NLE and DVD Studio Pro to author SD discs using audio and video tracks output from Compressor. I use the Compressor DVD Best Quality settings which produce a Dolby 2.0 AC3 file (48 kz. 16 bit 2 channel Center Mix -3 db, Surround Mix -3 and Dialog Normalization -27 dbFS) and an MPEG 2 video file. I do not process the original soundtrack in Soundtrack Pro to adjust levels or normalize....just take it from FCP to Compressor to DVDSP.

What should I be doing in my workflow so the sound on the DVD is closer to what I hear when editing?

For some reason I think I'm altering the sound file twice: once in compressor and a second time when DVDSP muxes it. Could this be the source of the problem?

Someone told me to just increase the track levels in FC so they are louder overall; however, that seems rather imprecise. There must be target levels (that I'm unaware of) for the audio in order to get best results....no? Right now I try to maintain peaking around -6db on the FC meter.

I've searched thru Google and the answers are all over the place and mostly pertaining to AIFF files, which is not what I get from my Compressor pre-set for DVD. Thank you

DVD SP Problem - could be compression issues

Okay, so I'm having issues with DVDSP at the moment. Built my DVD with a program that is 1 hour and about 38 minutes. I have a very simple menu structure that either sends the viewer to the start of the program or to a simple chapter menu.

The problem comes when I burn it out. I have tried both exporting the timeline as a self-contained movie and letting DVDSP do the compression and exporting the timeline with compressor. Both have the same problem. The problem doesn't show in the simulator, or in the timeline and it doesn't always occur in the same place on each disc. The video quality, when it is working correctly looks great, it's just the digital dropout that is killing me.

I'm trying the "export a self-contained movie then throw it into compressor" method. Hopefully that will help, but if anyone has had this problem, please let me know what I can do to fix it.

Thanks,
