It's just that recently I seem to be seeing more 4:3 ratio video playback than 16:9 aspect ratio content.

Perhaps the 4:3 content is easier to work with for the design of a web page?

Vimeo seems to be the choice for many. Is there a reason for this? Is Vimeo Plus ($59.95/yr) sufficient and a good deal? What alternatives are worth considering?
